Grimmia trichophylla Greville

Family: Grimmiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Grimmia trichophylla is variable but has tapering hairpoints (awns) on at least the distal leaves on a stem, either long or short. The seta is centrally attached to the capsule. The leaves are one stratose distally, usually with a bistratose margin in 2 or 3 rows and two guide cells in the costa. The medial laminal cells are short rectangular and sinuose. The costa is not winged. These photographs are of a specimen we collected in California where the species is much more common.
