Gyalolechia flavovirescens (Wulfen) Søchting, Frödén & Arup
Sulphur Firedot

Family: Teloschistaceae

Synonyms: Caloplaca flavovirescens (Wulfen) Dalla Torre & Sarnth.

Gyalolechia flavovirescens is a small crustose lichen that is inconspicuous in spite of its bright coloration. The thallus is sulphur yellow. The apothecia are orange with an orange rim and sometimes a rim of yellow thallus bordering that. The thallus and the apothecia are purple in KOH. The spores are 2-celled and polarilocular-- meaning that the cell cavities are pushed to the ends with a thickened septum. Gyalolechia flavovirescens is found on rocks.
