Hedwigia ciliata (Hedwig) P. Beauvois

Hedwigia ciliata is a distinctive pleurocarpous moss with leaves that have a hyaline triangle at the tip. There is no costa and the cells are nearly uniformly quadrate. They are papillate especially in the chlorophyll bearing cells near the hyaline tip. The capsule is nearly spherical with a flat operculum. The perichaetial leaves (the ones surrounding the capsule) are long ciliate.
