Hymenoxys richardsonii is common lower to middle elevation herb. The leaves are mostly basal and are highly dissected. The flowerheads are raised above the leaves on long stems. The inflorescence has yellow rays and a yellow disc. Hymenoxys richardsonii likes rocky hillside habitats.
