Ipomopsis macombii is an herb with several branches all radiating from the base. The flowers are blue-purple. The flowers of Ipomopsis macombii are longer than those of Ipomopsis multiflora which it resembles, and its stamens are included rather than long exerted as with I. multiflora. Both occur on dry areas at middle elevation.
