Jochenia pallescens (Hedw.) Hedenäs, Schlesak & D. Quandt
Family: Jocheniaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Hypnum pallescens (Hedw.) P. Beauv.
When the Hypnaceae were recently split into several new families, Hypnum pallescens was renamed Jochenia pallescens and placed in the Jocheniaceae. It has several features of the Hypnaceae, including falcate-secund leaves and elongate laminal cells. It looks remarkably similar to Hypnum revolutum (which is now Roaldia revoluta and is now placed in the Pylasiaceae). Jochenia pallescens differs in having stem leaves with a serrate distal margin, and the sexuality is autoicous leading to specimens that usually have plentiful sporophytes. J. pallescens can be found on rock, but unlike Hypnum revolutum it is commonly found on wood.
