Lactuca graminifolia Michaux var. arizonica McVaugh
(Arizona Lettuce)
Family: Asteraceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
None
Lactuca graminifolia var. arizonica is difficult to distinguish from Lactuca pulchella without the achenes. They both can have purple ray flowers, although usually L. pulchella has more intensely colored ones. The rays on Lactuca graminifolia tend to be lighter or more yellowish. Both of these species can have linear appearing leaves that are several centimeters long and just a few millimeters wide. The achenes of Lactuca graminifolia have a single vein per side, while those of Lactuca pulchella have 5-9 obvious veins per side.
