Family: Bryaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Brachymenium systylium (Müll. Hal.) Jaeger
Bryum systylium Müll. Hal.

Leptostomopsis systylia is best recognized among the Bryaceae by its long awn that is pigmented proximally per FNA and can be as long or longer than the lamina. Distal cells are 3-4:1 and do not have thickened or sinuate walls (compare with L. nivia). Known from one collection on rock in moss cave in New Mexico (L.R. Stark, 1980).

Many thanks to the Missouri Botanical Garden and John Atwood for loaning us this specimen for photography.
