Lewinskya laevigata (J.E. Zetterst.) F. Lara, Garilleti & Goffinet
Family: Orthotrichaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Orthotrichum laevigatum J.E. Zetterst.
Dorcadion laevigatum (J.E. Zetterst.) Lindb.
Dorcadionella laevigata (J.E. Zetterst.) Plášek, Sawicki & Ochyra
Lewinskya laevigata is distinguished by having no awns, exserted smooth capsules,
superficial stomata, leaves with recurved margins, and papillose distal cells. It looks morphologically
similar to the genus Orthotrichum to which it has previously been assigned. The genus Lewninskya
has been suggested to segregate monoicous species with superficial stomata.
Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp & Dina Clark for permitting us
to photograph this specimen.
