Cathartolinum vernale (Wooton) Small
Linum vernale is a short herb much branched from the base. The leaves and stems are glabrous. The inner portion of the
petal is bright red, followed by a narrow zone of white or pale yellow. The largest and
outermost portion of the petal is bright orange-yellow. Linum puberulum has a similar flower but pubescent foliage. Both species have linear leaves. Linum vernale is found in lower to middle elevations on rocky slopes.
