Lophozia obtusa (Lindb.) A. Evans
Family: Lophoziaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Leiocolea obtusa (Lindb.) Buch
Obtusifolium obtusum(Lindb.) S.W. Arnell
Lophozia obtusa was collected by Wm. F. Mahler accompanying a specimen of Oncophorus virens.
This liverwort is medium-sized about 15-2.5mm wide. It has bilobed leaves that are obliquely inserted. The cell
walls are thin and the trigones are small. Underleaves are present and variable in shape. Gemmae are rare, in contrast
to Lophozia ventricosa which looks similar but lacks underleaves.
We appreciate the Botanical Research Institute of Texas and Tiana Rehman for loaning us William F. Mahler's
Lophozia obtusa specimen to photograph!
