Vascular Plants of the Gila Wilderness

Presented in Association with the
Western New Mexico University Department of Natural Sciences

Marsileaceae
(Water Clover Family)

The Marsileaceae are aquatic, rooting in the mud underneath with rhizomatous stems. The only member of the family growing in the Gila National Forest looks just like a floating four leaf clover, with long petioled leaves and expanded blades. Sporangia are born on stalks near the base of the petioles.

Marsilea vestita (Hooked Pepperwort)
