Myriophyllum aquaticum is found at middle elevations in standing water. Like Myriophyllum spicatum, it has linear, highly dissected leaves that appear in whorls around the nodes and look like feathers. Myriophyllum aquaticum differs in that the stems are not entirely underwater. Several whorls of feather leaves stand above the water on each stem.
