Odontoschisma sphagni is an interesting liverwort in many ways. The leafy stems bear
long, leafless stolons. The leaves themselves have a border of transversely elongate cells. The
leaf margin is commonly at least partially recurved. These are all unusual traits to find
in a liverwort. Odontoschisma sphagni has no underleaves or lobules. The cells of the
lamina are thick-walled and have thickened trigones.
