Orthilia secunda (Linnaeus) House
(Sidebells)
Family: Ericaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Pyrola secunda Linnaeus
Ramischia secunda (Linnaeus) Garcke
Orthilia secunda looks like a Pyrola, except that the leaves are not all basal. Some definitely are cauline. The flowers on Orthilia secunda are all on one side of the stem, a characteristic called "secund." Orthilia secunda is found at upper elevation in the moist understory of the mixed conifer forest.
