Orthotrichum cupulatum Hoffmann ex Bridel

Family: Orthotrichaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Orthotrichum leiodon Kindberg
Orthotrichum utahense Lesquereux

Orthotrichum cupulatum has bluntly acute leaves that are recurved on both margins and that have no awns. The capsule has 16 ribs and the endostome is absent or rudimentary. The stomata are immersed. The distal laminal cells are 1-stratose. The papillae can be either tall and bifid or short and conic. This species can look very similar to O. anomalum, but that species has exserted capsules and exostome teeth that are striate but not papillose.
