Penstemon metcalfei is a pink and blue penstemon found only in a small area of the Black Range. It is found in a narrow, moist canyon with flowing water and shade at upper elevation. The corolla tube is pink, and the lobes are blue. It has triangular, clasping three-veined leaves. A questions remains about how Penstemon metcalfei is related to Penstemon oliganthus and Penstemon whippleanus.
