Persicaria maculosa is a streamside Smartweed with what appear to be red or purple fingerprints on the middle of the
otherwise bright green leaf. It has red stems and can be found in moist areas along lower to middle elevation streambeds where it is much branched from the base. The stems are bright red with obvious ocrea. The flowering racemes are droopy and the flowers have pinkish sepals.
