Pohlia obtusifolia (Villars ex Bridel) Koch

Family: Mniaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Bryum obtusifolium (Villars ex Bridel) Koch

Pohlia obtusifolia is yet to be found in New Mexico. It has broadly lanceolate leaves, some of which have a rather broad apex. The apices are more commonly acute though, and the species name would appear to be misleading. Sterile specimens, such as the one we have photographed here, are difficult to identify because much of the ID depends on sporophyte characters.

Many thanks to the New York Botanical Garden and Laura Briscoe for loaning us this specimen (NYBG barcode #01797224) for photography.
