Pseudanomodon attenuatus (Hedwig) Ignatov & Fedosov

Family: Neckeraceae, formerly Anomodontaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Leskea attenuata Hedwig
Anomodon attenuatus (Hedwig) Hübener

Pseudanomodon attenuatus is a pleurocarpous moss with short, stocky opaque leaves with a costa past midleaf. The leaves can be rather variable, either acute at the apex or rounded with an apiculus. The laminar cells are quadrate and have low, broad papillae that are occasioally branched and which are most evident at the leaf edges. The apex is apiculate with frequently one clear cell. The species name "attenuatus" refers not to the leaf, but rather to the characteristic "attenuate" branches that are reduced in size and are usually present on the ends and sides of stems. Pseudanomodon attenuatus is found in moist canyons at middle elevation.
