Ptychostomum pallescens (Schleich. ex Schwägr.) J.R. Spence

Family: Bryaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Bryum pallescens Schleich. ex Schwägr.
Bryum lonchocaulon Müll. Hal.

Ptychostomum pallescens has leaves with a percurrent costa, a strong limbidium and leaf margins recurved proximally. The endostome cilia are well formed and are appendiculate. Ptychostomum pallescens is only rare in the area because it must be reproductive to be sure of its identity. The very similar P. creberrimum has spores that are less than 18 microns diameter, while those of P. pallescens are 20 microns.
