Ptychostomum weigelii (Sprengel) J. R. Spence

Family: Bryaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Bryum weigelii Sprengel

Ptychostomum weigelii is distinctive by virtue of the long and broadly decurrent leaf margins that are visible alongside the stems. The costa is excurrent into a short awn and there is no well-developed limbidium. Ptychostomum weigelii is easily differentiated from our more common Ptychostomum pseudotriquetrum by virtue of the more elongate leaf of P. pseudotriquetrum as well as the obvious limbidium of that species.

We are grateful to John Brinda who has allowed us to photograph this specimen which he collected along a streambank in the Pecos Wilderness.
