Redfearnia homomallifolia (Redf.) J.T. Wynns

Family: Plagiotheciaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Isopterygium homomallifolium Redfearn
Pseudotaxiphyllum homomallifolium (Redfearn) Ireland

Redfearnia homomallifolia is a pleurocarpous moss with weakly homomallous leaves. The leaves are similar to some of those of Amblystegium serpens that lack a strong costa. The leaves of R. homomallifolia are more closely spaced and either lack a costa or have a very short double costa, and have longer cells than A. serpens. The alar cells are few and rectangular. The rhizoids are smooth. At this time, R. homomallifolia is known in New Mexico only from near Las Cruces.

Many thanks to the Duke University and Blanka Aguero for loaning us this specimen for photography.
