Rhizomnium punctatum (Hedw.) T.J. Kop.
Family: Mniaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Mnium punctatum Hedw.
Rhizomnium punctatum does not have micronemata, and therefore does not have rhizoids all the way up the stem to the youngest leaves. The micronemata would appear as short, wide, paler cells in linear rows along the stem obviously different from the long, thin
cells of the stem. See Rhizomnium pseudopunctatum for comparison. R. punctatum has a thick margin that is 2-4-stratose. The costa usually goes right up to the apex and there commonly is an apiculus present.
