Family: Brachytheciaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Steerecleus serrulatus (Hedw.) H. Rob.
Brachythecium serrulatum (Hedw.) H. Rob.
Eurhynchium serrulatum (Hedw.) Kindb.
Rhynchostegium serrulatum (Hedw.) A. Jaeger
Rhynchostegium serrulatum (Hedw.) A. Jaeger ssp. eriense (Kindb.) Kindb.
Rhynchostegium serrulatum (Hedw.) A. Jaeger ssp. hispidifolium (Kindb.) Kindb.
Rhynchostegium serrulatum looks very similar to Eurhynchium, except that it is complanate (flattened) in appearance, has very little differentiation of the alar cells, and is serrulate nearly all the way around. Like Eurhynchium, the apical cells are shorter than the mid laminar cells. Rhynchostegium serrulatum is found at lower to middle elevation in the Gila growing on rock in moist canyons.
