Scytonema sp.

Scytonema is a cyanobacterium that is found in the filamentous form when free on soil. When it is lichenized, Scytonema forms large spherical single cells. We photographed Scytonema as part of the thallus of Heppia lutosa where it is single-celled, and also at its margins where it is filamentous. .
