Senecio actinella Greene
(Flagstaff Groundsel)
Family: Asteraceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Senecio actinella Greene var. mogollonicus (Greene) Greenman
Senecio mogollonicus Greene
Senecio actinella is an herb that can form large mats in clearings in Ponderosa Pine forest.
The mat is formed by the older glabrous and shallowly dentate basal leaves. The newer leaves
are more ascending, entire and tomentose. The scape is nearly leafless except for perhaps one or two bract-like
leaves. The inflorescence is solitary, which easily differentiates it from the Senecio wootonii with which
it is commonly found.
