Solanum dimidiatum has large leaves that are reminiscent of leaves of Quercus gambelii. They are up to 15cm long and wavy on the margin. However, the leaves and stems of Solanum dimidiatum are armed with prickles. The lavender flowers with yellow anthers are similar to those of Solanum elaeagnifolium although a bit larger.
