Solanum jamesii is an erect perennial herb with pinnately compound leaves. The flowers are white and the corolla is deeply lobed. There are five stamens. The stamens taper upward and open by terminal pores. The herbage has simple hairs which are not prickly as in many other Solanaceae. Solanum jamesii is found in open areas in the Ponderosa pine forest at lower to middle elevation.
