Straminergon stramineum (Brid.) Hedenäs
Family: Calliergonaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Hypnum stramineum Dicks. ex Brid.
Calliergon stramineum (Dicks. ex Brid.) Kindberg
Straminergon stramineum is a pale straw- to light green-colored pleurocarpous moss of wet areas. The apex is
blunt with a rolled in (hooded) margin. The alar areas are inflated and well demarcated. The laminal cells are
exceptionally long and thin. Broad pseudoparaphyllia are
present. A notable finding visible even in the field are the tufts of rhizoids originating from initials in the apices of leaves.
Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp and Dina Clark for loaning us this specimen for photography.
