Symblepharis vaginata is an interesting moss with up to four seta per perichaetium. Symblepharis vaginata has strongly crisped dry leaves that unfold when wet. The leaves are toothed at the apex and abruptely narrowed from an ovate, sheathing base. The cells are rectangular to nearly linear at the base and isodiametric above the base. Symblepharis vaginata is found in upper elevation forest.
