Symphyotrichum ericoides var. ericoides is a middle to upper elevation roadside herb with a rather woody base. It is a perennial with large numbers of flower heads with white rays and a yellow disc. The flower heads are arrayed in a terminal raceme and in leaf axils. The involucre is about 5mm high.
