Tortula subulata subsp. mucronifolia (Schwägr.) Kindb.
Tortula mucronifolia has leaves with progressively longer awns as you move distally
on the stem. The leaves are mucronate proximally, and short awned distally. The cells of the
lamina have no obvious papillae except for a few visible on the margin distally. The proximal
marginal cells are long rectangular and the margin is reflexed. The peristome is well-developed
of long, twisted hairs.
