GRAMMY AWARD WINNING BAND LA SANTA CECILIA TO PERFORM AT WNMU’S OLD JAMES STADIUM IN FREE SHOW!
The Mimbres Region Arts Council (MRAC), in partnership with Western New Mexico University, is extremely proud to announce that La Santa Cecilia, Los Angeles’ hottest hybrid alternative band, will perform a free Silver City concert outside at WNMU’s Old James Stadium on Friday, June 20. Gates open at 5pm with opening acts Geli and the Heartbrakers and Brandon Perrault y Mi Familia beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Fresh from their 2014 Grammy win in the category of Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album, La Santa Cecilia combines Latin, rock and world music in a distinctive rhythmic style that draws on cumbia, bossa nova, rumba, bolero, and tango as well as jazz, rock and klezmer music.
La Santa Cecilia band members include: Jose “Pepe” Carlos, accordion and requintero; Alex Bendana, bass; Miguel Ramirez, percussion; and Marisol Hernandez, vocals. They will be performing music from their most recent award-winning album, Treinta Dias (30 Days), acclaimed nationally by NPR, Ad Age Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal.
The band has emerged as a voice for traditionally voiceless and faceless immigrants. Jose “Pepe” Carlos explains: “These are stories that we have to tell,” he said. “As musicians, songwriters, we have an obligation to present the story of our people. Of the situations we have lived in ourselves.”
The MRAC is proud to partner with WNMU in producing a show for the first time ever at Old James Stadium, the outdoor venue on the WNMU campus. Bring a blanket and enjoy some food and drink and the beautiful summer night. There will be plenty of room for dancing. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the show, and there will also be a beer garden provided. Stay tuned for the announcement of local opening acts. Everyone is invited to attend, this will be a show to delight all ages.
The Mimbres Region Arts Council has been providing quality visual, performing, and youth arts programs that serve and strengthen our community in the Silver City community for over 30 years.
