An exhibit featuring the work of artist Tina Mion will open Thursday, January 19 at the Francis McCray Gallery of Contemporary Art on the Western New Mexico University campus.
The event will open with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. providing an opportunity to view Mion’s work that include drawings, pastels, stone lithography and oil paintings she has created throughout her career. Each piece includes the element of either water or fire. The works range in their interpretations of wistful, light-hearted, and dark subject matters.
Born in Washington, D.C., Mion has lived in different areas of the country and now resides in Winslow, Arizona. As a southwestern artist, Mion has experienced first-hand the effect of wildfires and dust storms in nature and her experience is reflected in her work.
Mion is known for her series of paintings titled All The Presidents which has traveled to various Presidential libraries and museums. Her artwork has exhibited at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and is in collections throughout the country.
