During student teaching, teacher candidates create a teaching event, which is a carefully planned learning segment that is documented via lesson plans, copies of instructional and assessment materials, one or two video clips of the candidate teaching, a summary of whole class learning, and an analysis of student work samples created; during the learning segment. The teaching event also contains reflective commentaries describing the teaching context, analyzing teaching practices, and reflecting on student learning. During the action learning presentations,  the student teachers describe their teaching events and demonstrate how they provided active learning experiences to the students in their assigned classrooms.

Teacher candidates will also facilitate two panel discussions during the conference.  One panel is comprised of teacher candidates who will discuss how to be a successful student teacher.  The first panel will be facilitated by Alfredo Reyes and the three panelists include: Kaitlyn Dean, Thomas Castillo, and Debra Pacheco.  The second panel is composed of professional educators.  This semester’s professional panel includes, Mr. Gus Benakis, Associate Superintendent of Silver Schools; Ms. Nancy Patterson, Associate Superintendent of Human Resources for Deming Public Schools, and Dr. Jose Carrillo, Associate Superintendent for Cobre schools. The professional panel will address questions around hiring the prospects for finding employment as a public school teacher.

After the conference the new teacher candidates will be inducted into the teaching profession at the affirmation ceremony.
