Congressman Steve Pearce will speak in Light Hall Auditorium at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018. He will discuss the business climate in New Mexico from a business owner’s perspective.
Delta Mu Delta, the international business honor society, is bringing Congressman Pearce to campus and invites students and members of the community to attend.
“The idea is for students to listen to a professional, learn from his experience so they can use his knowledge in their own futures,” said President of Delta Mu Delta Vladimir Gnilozubov. “For students, it would be nice to hear from him not only as a businessman but also as a candidate for the New Mexico governorship.”
In his sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Pearce and his wife Cynthia owned and operated Lea Fishing Tools, an oilfield services firm. They grew that firm tenfold in ten years, increasing employment from four to over 40. They won the VIVA Award for outstanding business in New Mexico from the Association of Commerce and Industry.
With degrees in economics and business from other state universities and experience as the Student Body President at NMSU, Pearce was an Air Force pilot and separated from the military honorably with the rank of Captain.
Pearce was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives in 1996 and re-elected in 1998. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002, and in 2010, he came to represent the Second Congressional District of New Mexico.
The event is free and open students and the public on a first come, first served basis. Pearce plans to speak for 45-minutes.
