Fab Lab Hub Founder Sarah Boisvert will present “The New Collar Workforce: An Insider’s Guide to Making Impactful Change in Manufacturing and Training” on Monday, April 9, at 6 p.m. in the Parotti Recital Hall at Western New Mexico University.

A leader in laser manufacturing and the author of “New Collar Job Training for Industry 4.0,” Boisvert said, “Blue collar jobs are now digital.”

With more than 30 years of experience in the design development and commercialization of high technology products, she is the founder of the MIT-based Fab Lab Network non-profit, which helps start new makerspaces and conducts workforce and entrepreneurship training in digital fabrication.

During the lecture, Boisvert will discuss the workforce development in manufacturing curriculum she has developed and made available nationwide during her talk on campus.

She will share how to create new opportunities in smart manufacturing, discover the future of work in the digital factory and hear about training programs that are preparing people who make up what Boisvert dubs the “new collar workforce.”

In an article on Medium.com, Boisvert said, “I saw huge need to educate in a new way and the MIT Fab Lab Network solved that problem. Fab Labs make the new tools of the digital innovation economy available to anyone so that they can make almost anything they can imagine. This type of hands-on, problem-solving activity brings creativity to learning so that students from ‘K to Grey’ are engaged.”

Part of the Emerging Technology and Creative Commerce Lecture series sponsored by PNM, Boisvert’s talk free to attend.
