Four students who exemplified leadership in the classroom and in the community will be inducted into the Student Hall of Fame for 2016.
The ceremony will take place Tuesday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. in Light Hall Auditorium and is open to the public. An outdoor reception will precede the official ceremony beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The 2016 inductees are Dylan Contreras, Lawrence Garcia, Omar Lopez and Chyler Imai.
Dylan Contreras is from Peoria, Arizona, and will be graduating in May with a degree in psychology and a minor in political science. During his time at WNMU he has served in several positions for the Associated Students including his current role as Vice-President.
A player on the Mustang football team for four years, Contreras excelled academically being named to the President’s List, Deans List, and the RMAC All Academic Team. He will be attending law school in the fall.
Lawrence Garcia, from Mimbres, New Mexico, earned a business management degree in December and is currently pursuing an MBA. Garcia currently serves as the President of the Associated Students. During his time as President, Garcia has led several initiatives including creating districts for student representation, advocating for campus security measures with our state legislators and serving in several leadership roles with clubs and organizations.
Chyler Imai is from Kapaau, Hawaii, and is graduating in May with a degree in sociology. Imai played and served as team captain for the Lady Mustang volleyball team for four years earning placement on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll all four years. Imai also played for the Lady Mustang softball team and was placed on the President’s List in 2015 for high academic achievement. Her other leadership activities included volunteer work at the Silver City Gospel Mission and serving as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Omar Lopez is from Mexico City, Mexico, and is graduating in May with degrees in kinesiology and business management. Lopez played for four years on the Mustang tennis team helping lead the team to conference championships all four years. He earned All-Academic Honors and was placed on the President’s List in 2015.
Lopez has served as a member for the Associated Students, is a tutor in the Center for Student Success, organized the annual Hoops 4 Hope event and was president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
