Vascular Plants of the Gila Wilderness

Presented in Association with the
Western New Mexico University Department of Natural Sciences

Urticaceae
(Nettle Family)

The Urticaceae are herbs with stinging hairs. They have sepals, but no petals, and the flowers are axillary. The two members of this family in the Gila National Forest seem to be segregated with Urtica gracilenta to the south, and Urtica dioica subsp. gracilis more to the north.

Parietaria pensylvanica (Pennsylvania Pellitory)
Urtica gracilis (Stinging Nettle)
Urtica gracilenta (Mountain Nettle)
