Western New Mexico’s new fitness center, including the renovated swimming pool, will not be opening on Monday, September 21 as originally scheduled.

The delay is due to an inspection that did not take place on Thursday, September 17.

“We had a scheduled visit by the state’s CID inspector on Thursday,” said Stan Pena, Director of Facilities. “No one showed up and we now expect the inspection to happen next week.”

The university anticipates that the inspection, facilitated by the Construction Industries Division inspector, will occur no later than Tuesday, September 22 and that the facility will be open to public use following the state inspector’s approval.

“From our end, we are ready to open for our students and the community,” said Pena.
