Women in the Arts Lecture and Exhibit: Allie Wilkinson

Her largest single work ‘endless,’ is 234 feet long to date. In this work, she delves deeply into the physical properties of ink on dura-lar, gradually filling the surface with undulating strokes in a meditative practice; the result is an ongoing ink archive of internal experience. ‘endless’ has inhabited fields, ponds, roads, and trees, a shape shifting installation that adapts to its environment. When installed inside, ‘endless’ becomes sculptural, cascading to the floor and rippling into itself. It fills the space and moves softly in breezes stirred by moving bodies, seeming to breathe. Fely Tchaco will perform live in The Gardens at Light Hall. This concert is free. Drawing from her own life’s experience as well as folk wisdom, Ivory Coast singer songwriter Fely Tchaco embodies the new generation of artists who remain attached to their African heritage, while at the same time maintaining a resolutely modern outlook on the world. Multi talented, Billboard Nominee, singer songwriter, performer, Fely Tchaco who moved to San Francisco in early 2000 was born and raised in Cote d’Ivoire West Africa. Fely’s passion for music began in her early teenager years. She started singing French ballads and popular songs in piano bars and music venues throughout the Ivory Coast to establish herself as a singer doing cover songs. LISTEN...
