Soaking in the Soil, the Use of Landscape in Poetry and Creative Nonfiction

Heather D. Frankland will give a two-hour talk and workshop as part of the Southwest Word Fiesta’s series The Write Stuff, which is intended to help writers elevate the professionalism of their work. She will present “Soaking in the Soil, the Use of Landscape in Poetry and Creative Nonfiction” on October 29 at 11:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City. By using selected readings as inspiration, she and participants will look at how to effectively incorporate landscape into one’s poetry and creative nonfiction. The workshop and prompts will focus on exploring one’s connection to natural, rural, and/or urban areas. It will also look at how to use place as plot, reflection, and general inspiration. Heather D. Frankland lives in Silver City, NM and teaches English Composition at Western New Mexico University. Mozart’s House of Horrors: LEYENDAS

WNMU Music Program presents Mozart's House of Horrors: LEYENDAS. This year’s haunted house, benefitting the WNMU Music Program, touches on regional history and Mexican urban legends like La Llorona, El Cucuy, lechusa and Pascualita. Come to find out if Billy the Kid rises from the dead, if chupacabras really exist, and if you can handle the frights that WNMU student musicians dream up.
