BUSINESS ASSISTANCE
New
Mexico is traditionally competitive in attracting entrepreneurs and small
businesses, and has developed programs to entice organizations both large and
small to locate – or relocate - in the Land of Enchantment. State and local
governments have worked together to open avenues for economic development:
provisions for tax incentives and programs for economic growth are widely
available to attract new businesses and investors to this region.
The
four-county area of Catron, Hidalgo, Grant, and Luna, is nearly 17,366 square
miles in size, and is home to communities ranging in population from 400 to
31,000. Our goal is to provide you with the tools you need to make your
business successful in New Mexico, and to support economic growth in every
county, city, town, and village.
Beginning
in 2010 the New Mexico Small Business Development Center will celebrate 20
years of service. The NMSBDC offers counseling services
free of charge to assist new business and existing business to be successful
and create a stronger economy. The southwest portion of New Mexico is serviced
by the SBDC located on the
campus of Western
New Mexico University
servicing Grant, Catron, Luna, Hidalgo Counties: while Truth or Consequences is
serviced by the SBDC out of New Mexico State in Las Cruces, NM

better prepare you for opening a business, Southwest Office of Regional Data
(SWORD) provides data and quick links to resources within your community.
General information includes contact information for local city and county
offices, the New Mexico State
Regulations and Licensing Department
for businesses needing information on regulations, licensing or permits to
operate within the state. If you are located in an unincorporated or rural
area, you will most likely register your business with the county. If you are
operating within city limits of a larger community, you will register your
business at the city office. Local business licenses cost $25.00 to $35.00
annually. All businesses must register with the State
of New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. You will receive a CRS-1 Filer’s Kit
containing forms and instructions for filing gross receipts tax. If you are
