Western New Mexico University is hosting a 6-week summer youth camp from June 25th through August 3rd. It is open to children ages 5 to 10 years old and will feature fun and interactive activities. Utilitarian Potter To Hold Two-Week Workshop on Campus

Utilitarian potter Julia Galloway will be the featured workshop artist for this year’s CLAY Festival in Silver City, N.M. The workshop, which runs from July 9 through July 20 on the WNMU campus, will focus on producing pouring pots. In addition to daily demonstrations, students will examine historical and contemporary pottery to better understand and develop their own pouring pots. Participants must have prior wheel-throwing experience. Ms. Galloway is a Professor of Art at the University of Montana, Missoula. She has exhibited worldwide, and her work is in major museum and private collections. Ms. Galloway is interested in all aspects in the field of the ceramic arts, from making pottery, jurying exhibitions, and writing about pottery, to studying ceramics from other cultures and service to emerging artists. Silver City author Bill Charland will be doing a reading and discussion regarding his new book, "Tenuous State," on July 10 in Miller Library from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Bill Charland is the author of nine books and "Tenuous State" is his third novel. Once a careers columnist at the nationally distributed Rocky Mountain News, he wrote extensively for the Christian Science Monitor and served in higher education over a span of 50 years.
