A Message from WNMU
On Sunday, April 13, 2025, Western New Mexico University detected unusual activity in its IT environment. WNMU promptly initiated its incident response plan and implemented protective protocols, which included isolating certain systems from the internet. Because of these protective protocols, access to certain WNMU systems and services, including the university's website, were disrupted.
As the university continues working to fully restore access to all web-based services, this temporary website provides links to currently available academic and university resources.

What happened?
On April 13, 2025, Western New Mexico University experienced a cybersecurity incident that disrupted the availability of certain web-based programs throughout the university system. In response, the university promptly secured and isolated critical IT systems, commenced an investigation and notified law enforcement.
What is the university doing to restore the systems that are currently unavailable?
The university staff, including the IT Department and community partners, have been diligently working to restore all of the impacted university systems as quickly and safely as possible.
Has my personal information been compromised?
The university is still investigating this incident. If the investigation determines that personal information was involved, impacted individuals will be notified in accordance with applicable laws.
When will the university's website become available again?
While there is no definitive timeline on when the WNMU website will be back up, the university has established a temporary website with a list of important resources that can be found at www.wnmu.edu.
Can I begin using my university-issued computer?
Desktops should not be used until a member of the IT Department has verified your machine is safe and placed a Quality Control sticker on the computer.
Laptops that have been given a verbal "Okay to use" by the IT Department may continue to be used. Additional security software will be installed following the desktop process.
If I have VPN access, can I use it?
VPN access will not be available until a later date and will require new setup for each user. A request form will be provided to campus at a later date.
Is on-campus Wi-Fi available?
Public Wi-Fi is available through WNMUPublicWIFI. University employees may access MustangNet by using login credentials provided by a supervisor.
I have not been able to make any tuition or fee payments. Will I be charged a late fee?
Online payment is now available through your Mustang Express account payment portal. WNMU is providing a grace period for payments, and late fees have been delayed for now. Questions regarding student accounts and payments may be sent to busaf@wnmu.edu.
Has this incident impacted access to digital textbooks?
No, access to digital textbooks has been maintained, however, if you find that you are unable to access a book, please reach out to the University Bookstore Monday through Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday, 10am to 3pm. at 575-538-6381 or 0341mgr@follett.com.

Can students register for summer and fall courses?
Yes, class registration is currently open for the summer and fall terms. Students should review the course schedule then complete the request form.
Is the University Advising Center accepting appointments for those who need assistance choosing the right classes?
Yes, students may book an appointment with an advisor by calling 575-538-6393.
I have been attempting to reach my advisor but cannot leave a voicemail and cannot get through to anyone, what do I do?
Please email advising@wnmu.edu and provide your full name and contact information to help us route you correctly, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
How do I establish a payment plan for summer courses?
Payment plans as well as payments in full can be completed through your Mustang Express account payment portal. If you are anticipating financial aid and do not see a credit authorization, you should wait to establish a payment plan and reach out to the Financial Aid department directly.
How do I order my official university transcript?
Official transcripts may be ordered through https://www.parchment.com. It is recommended that when ordering an official transcript, students check "Hold for Grades" or "Hold for Degree" to ensure the official transcript included end-of-term final grades.
How do I order my unofficial transcript?
Please send a request to registrars@wnmu.edu. The request should be in a separate letter attached to the email and must include your name, W#, or the last four digits of your social security number, approximate dates of attendance, and date of birth. This letter must also include your signature.
How can I declare my major during this time?
Students may declare their major through the Declaration of Major form at this link.
How do I withdraw from a summer or fall course?
Students may withdraw from courses through the Semester Withdrawal Form at this link.
Will students enrolled in summer courses still be subject to disenrollment for non-payment?
Deadlines for payment arrangements and disenrollment have been extended while working through these issues. Late payment plan enrollment will be allowed.
I have not been able to make any tuition or fee payments for spring, will I be charged a late fee?
Online payment is now available through your Mustang Express account payment portal. The grace period for payments has been extended to Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Please be sure to have Spring balances paid in full on or before this date to avoid possible late penalty fees and/or billing holds.
